I'm an aspiring filmmaker, writer, and artist who also happens to do film criticism on the side. Quite a unique combination if you ask me. I began making short films when I was eighteen, and I still continue to improve myself as a filmmaker. I still have yet to find my own style and voice in my art, but I'll get there. I also happen to be an undergrad junior student currently attending Nevada State University. I also began writing film reviews back in 2021. I mainly posted reviews of movies I've seen on my Instagram account, and I amassed an audience as a result. Most of my reviews were too long to fit as a caption, so I had to take pictures of each page of my review and upload them to my Instagram account. I had to make sure the photos were easy to make out, so the people could read them. It was fun for a while, but it got pretty exhausting so I stopped posting long form reviews on there, and instead posted short thoughts on a film or tv series on my Instagram story or on my main page. My Instagram account initially was a platform for me to post reviews. Nowadays, my account is whatever I want it to be. I used Letterboxd for a while to post my long form reviews, but I later found that Letterboxd is mostly useless when it comes to film criticism (There are some exceptions, but the majority of them are joke reviews or memes, and almost all of them aren't funny. To be fair, I'm sort of guilty of doing the same, but I wasn't extreme with mine). I guess it's still good for logging the movies you watched as well as building a watchlist, but the app as a whole is disappointing. My disappointment with Letterboxd brought me to filmsnobreviews, where at least the contributors on the site actually write review a movie or show. I don't see myself sticking with film criticism for the long run and there's a good chance I might grow out of it, but for now, I'm glad doing this as a side gig.
