What It Is: Disney World is known as the happiest place on Earth, full of joy and magic. While Disney fans can be an enthusiastic bunch, what about those who take it a step too far? What about the ones who stir up trouble in the acclaimed theme parks—the wild ones who aren’t satisfied with just the rides?
This documentary dives into their stories—tales of mischief, theft, and hijinks that have spanned the entire history of the park.
What We Think: I have to be honest—as the edgelord I am, I didn’t think I’d ever actively enjoy a documentary related to Disney. But this thing was absolutely punk rock. From urban explorers, to the Disney black market, to a man literally camping out in a closed-off section of one of the parks—this was surprisingly entertaining. I had a great time watching it.
The documentary showcases just how wild and insane some of the mischief at the parks can get. It takes you on a behind-the-scenes ride through parts of Disney you’d never normally see—all while blasting a kickass soundtrack in the background.
The “happiest place on Earth” has its dirty, dark, and decrepit corners, and this film takes you right into them. One of the biggest strengths is how much of the mischief-makers’ own footage was used. These people filmed themselves exploring abandoned rides and forgotten areas, and that real-life footage really made the documentary. The firsthand accounts and visuals are so crucial to the experience, they feel inseparable from the narrative.
The back half of the film dives deep into the black market side of Disney theft, featuring firsthand accounts and even police footage of one of the thieves.
Our Grade: A, Stolen Kingdom was genuinely fun, and I actually learned something I didn’t know before. This documentary ruled—10/10 recommend.
