Title: Trigger Warning
MPA Rating: TV-MA
Director: Mouly Surya
Starring: Jessica Alba, Mark Webber, Anthony Michael Hall
Runtime: 1 hr 46 mins
What It Is: Parker (Alba) is a former special forces commando who returns to the small town she grew up in after the sudden death of her father. While investigating with her former flame, who is now the town’s sheriff, she realizes that nothing is as it seems. The sheriff, Jesse (Webber), also happens to be the son of a local Senator, and he’s not exactly the nicest guy. When it appears that Parker’s father may have been murdered, all signs point to something far more nefarious happening in town.
What We Think: What a crock of crap this is. Standard bland action movie trope BS. Jessica Alba is terrible in this and she’s not getting any help at all. The script is also irritatingly bad. No one feels like they wanna be here. Hell I don’t wanna be here watching this. Netflix has become a beacon for high price garbage. At least with Tubi I KNOW what I’m getting. If it’s an original from Netflix and comes out before the first snow falls don’t bother with it.
Our Grade: D+,If not for a few moments where the cinematography shines, I’d consider this film a complete failure. For the record, Alba’s Spanish dialogue felt really awkward, causing me to cringe for a moment. I’m not sure who this film is made for. Its message of women’s empowerment likely won’t resonate with the typical action movie fans who prefer machismo. I find myself questioning the intent behind it all. This is just another in a series of missteps from the streaming giant—much like Netflix as a service itself. I can’t, in good conscience, recommend this one. Keep Jessic Alba away from projects like this. She deserves better. We deserve better.
