What It Is: The gangs all here once again. Busting ghosts and keeping New York City paranormal free. When a mysterious orb makes its way into the hands of Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd). Upon studying it they discover that a great ancient evil lurks within it. With the help of a young ghost this figure will try to unleash itself and the hell he brings with him upon the planet. Now Gary, (Rudd) Callie (Coon) and her children must try to stop this evil and save the city they love. Of course they’ll have some help from some familiar faces.
What We Think: Bro they really need to stop making these movies. They’re just getting progressively worse and worse. Still not as bad a the Ghostbusters from 2017. Nonetheless this is a clustered, jumbled mess of a film. With a more focused approach there’s definitely something here. Instead there’s too many plot thread that though resolved don’t get enough time to really stew and evolve. Everything is surface level. It’s not funny enough to make you laugh with consistency. Even the cameos don’t work and do you know how hard that is to not make work. It is clear that Gil Kenan just doesn’t have it behind the lens. He’s yet to make anything I’d constitute as even partially good.
Our Grade: C-, I’m curious if they’ll take another stab at making a third film in this franchise. I really hope they don’t do that. These characters, especially Finn Wolfhard’s Trevor are just really annoying. Frankly I don’t recommend this. It isn’t fun. It isn’t as funny as it should be for having the prefix title Ghostbusters. Either do better or please for the love of everything put this franchise out of it’s misery.
