Title: Kneecap
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Rich Peppiatt
Starring: Kneecap, Michael Fassbender
Runtime: 1 hour 31 minutes

What it is: A comedic origin story for the Irish speaking rap group Kneecap, who play themselves. With their defiant, drug fueled music they spark controversy and struggle to survive as both police and members of the R.R.A.D. close in on them. In the meanwhile, Kneecap get up to crazy, drug-fueled shenanigans and become a highly successful rap group, all while speaking their native Irish Tongue.

What We Think: Holy hell this movie was fun! Great music, great comedy, a story that makes you feel empathy for the struggles Kneecap goes through, it is an awesome, awesome movie. It was creative and explosive. From beginning to end the movie was an absolute blast. For acting not being their main gig, I felt that the members of Kneecap had amazing comedic timing and emotional range. Easily one of the best films at Sundance this year so far.  It did a lot to express the importance of the things they stood for and why they chose the Irish language as their main musical vehicle.

I love the way it’s shot, I love the script, I laughed extremely hard at some of the jokes, and the tender moments were especially tender. It’s a colorful, goofy film that never loses its wildly funny sense of humor, even in the more serious moments. I liked this film so much, I will likely buy a copy when it becomes available. An absolutely wild party of a film that even in the darkest moments, gives a little mischievous wink..

Our Grade: A+, So far, one of my favorite films at Sundance. Kneecap is a great film for any music lover and anyone that simply wants to have a good time.
