Title: Old Dads
MPA Rating: R
Director: Bill Burr
Starring: Billy Burr, Bokeem Woodbine, Bobby Cannavale
Runtime: 1 hr 44 mins

What It Is: Jack (Burr) is a man that LOVES his family. In particular his son Nate. But he like his friends Connor (Cannavale) and Mike (Woodbine) had a kid later in his life. Now, after the sale of the company they built and worked at for almost 20 years they, as a collective are going through it. Now after an unexpected gaggle of mistakes Jack must start to realize that he, in his aging ways may want to reconsider how he goes about his day to day.

What We Think: This isn’t funny. I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t think I laughed ONCE. It’s not some biting satire that thinks about the jokes, it also doesn’t have the humor to rely solely on timing and punchlines. Instead what we get is something that feels out of place and specifically designed to work for a different target audience than you’d think. This is a film your weird conspiracy theory uncle will love. The guy who isn’t a trans ally and doesn’t believe in pronouns. The jokes here st the expense of the lefty weirdos, because that’s what they are, don’t hit. I wish they did because sometimes it’s nice to be able to pick on yourself.

Our Grade: D+, Man. I like Bill Burr he normally sort of works in what he’s doing but there’s something rotten at the core of this script and it isn’t particularly well directed. Burr, for his part behind the lens is clearly a rookie and perhaps with more seasoning as a director he’ll be fine. What’s the biggest concern is the writing. It’s awful. Like, inexplicably so. I am not even going to speak on the hacky borderline unwatchable performances from everyone NOT named Rachael Harris…who’s amazing…always. Don’t watch this. Literally save yourself the time.
