Title: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
MPA Rating: PG
Directors: Jeff Rowe, Kyler Spears
Starring: Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu
Runtime: 1 hr 39 mins

What It Is: Four tiny baby turtles get covered in a mysterious green ooze. This mutates them and they are about the size of a normal teenager. They’re father is an equally mutated Rat named Splinter (Jackie Chan). These turtles (all named after Renaissance painters) enjoy the small glimpses of the surface world they get. When they get caught up in the mystery of who, and/or what the villainous Superfly (Ice Cube) is and what he’s planning to do with all this tech he’s stolen.

What We Think: Yet another terrific animated feature hitting the streets in 2023. They filmed the voiceover for the turtles with all of them together and that led to many moments of “riffing” by the young cast. It absolutely added something special to it. This is such a fun film and that’s really something to be proud of in a animated landscape that has had some absolute bangers this year. From Across the Spider-Verse to Nimona to Elemental it seems every studio making these films is absolutely trying to bring it. Minus Dreamworks of course. Who just aren’t doing anything unique or fun.

Our Grade: A-, A fun story, a unique style and a genuinely fantastic overall package makes the Turtles return to the big screen a more than welcome one. See it. In whatever way you must you’ve gotta see this film and bring your whole family because it’s totally worth it. Man I really wanna see a sequel to this if that’s in the plans. I do hope it is. There’s so much to explore within the world of the Turtles that we’ve yet to truly look at. I mean the Turtles don’t even face they’re most infamous villain in this.
