Title: Nimona
MPA Rating: PG
Director: Nick Bruno, Troy Quane
Starring: Chloë Grace Moretz, Riz Ahmed, Eugene Lee Yang
Runtime: 1 hr 41 mins

What It Is: Ballister Boldheart (Ahmed) is a knight who started with nothing. He was literally a street rat. Now he’s moments away from being knighted. The first of his kind. Someone not born to noble blood. When his sword accidentally causes the death of the Queen he’s now outlaw number one. His lover, and fellow knight Ambrosius Goldenloin (Yang) doesn’t believe he’d do something so heinous. Now with the help of a demon named Nimona (Moretz) they’re out to prove his innocence.

What We Think: Animation really is having a moment here in 2023. Between Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse and the new TMNT film this is going to be a helluva year for that Best Animated Film at this years Oscars. The voice acting is spectacular and quite frankly they’re delivering. Chloë Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed have a palpable chemistry with their characters. On top of that the message that the film is trying to convey is a beautiful one. I won’t spoil it but I will say it is one that kids and adults will both love and appreciate. There’s such a vibrancy and life to the manner of the storytelling.

Our Grade: A-, Another animated film in 2023 another absolute banger. So much fun and such a funny story. It felt class fairy tale told in an nontraditional way. This Netflix original is certainly something I recommend. And I recommend you do so with your whole family. Fun, funny and so unique I am loving what and where animated films are headed. Such cool looking films that are so well-written and telling stories that need to (Elemental) be told all while featuring enough for both parents and their little ones.
