Title: Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One
MPA Rating: PG-13
Director:  Christopher McQuarrie
Starring: Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson
Runtime: 2 hr 43 mins

What It Is: He’s back! Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is on another mission that will be his…should be choose to accept it. This time he is determined to find out who and what is running “the entity” an unknown and rogue AI that can cripple nations in seconds. When a sinister and familiar face begins to pop up in correlation with this mission it becomes a personal one for Ethan. But how does he fight something that can tap into anything digital in seconds?

What We Think: Being that this is ONCE AGAIN a part one of what should prove to be a two part series I expected it to feature a cliffhanger. This year it’s gone both terribly (Fast X) and very VERY well (Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse). This luckily was another great example of making a film feel complete while not giving us the whole narrative. It ends on the right cliffhanger, which given Tom Cruises history isn’t even his most precarious stunt. He shines here yet again in the role he’s kept alive. Truly though it’s his band of merry fellow bandits that bring the personality to this.

Our Grade: A-, This is what you think it is. Tom Cruise does crazy stuff. Someone does some spy stuff and a MacGuffin is sought after and may or may not hold the key to our imminent destruction. I cannot wait to see the absolute pedal to the metal that part two is going to inevitably bring. It’s going to be all action all the time. I anticipate an almost breakneck speed to it. It’ll be something to look forward to and I hope you’ll all check out this first part knowing full well you won’t be getting a full resolution. It’s a fantastic action film chock full of decent writing and expert direciton from Chris McQuarrie.
