Title: The Flash
MPA Rating: PG-13
Director: Andy Muschietti
Starring: Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle
Runtime: 2 hrs 24 mins

What It Is: Barry Allen (Miller) is trying to figure it all out. How to be The Flash, how to navigate life and how to help his father, who he believes is innocent of murdering his wife. He does what anyone would do. He wants to go back and save her. What he doesn’t realize however is that he’s placed himself into an alternate universe. One where she’s alive and he already exist. This causes many issues in space and time and upsets the entire Speedforce.

What We Think: I really wanted to like this movie. I did not. It’s a mess of bad writing and worse CGI. Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen is an annoy mess and his alternate self is even worse. Michael Keaton returning as Batman is an obvious positive and Sasha Calle brings life to Supergirl we haven’t seen in that character…ever. This is a film made up of cool moments. Cool spots but all that sound and fury signifies absolutely nothing to paraphrase the Scottish play. That is the extent to which I will compare this comic book atrocity to Shakespeare.

Our Grade: D, What a complete mess. What I can say is that it is a complete mess. There’s a whole movie here and at 184 minutes long there had better be. But there isn’t enough love or time put into the making of this for it to figure itself out. When you sift through all the fan service bullshit there really is an emotional core here that could’ve been excellently portrayed. Miller in those moments does the work an actor should it’s just the easy stuff he fails to be good at. Some will find the fun in this blockbuster, colossal flop.
