What It Is: In some parallel world Miguel (Nolasco) tries to hack his way into an oasis type exodus located on another planet. As he ventures into a dream during sleep he meets the mysterious Eva (Liete) a woman who makes Miguel reassess his place in the universe. As his existential crisis hits a fever pitch the question must be asked if he’ll ever escape and get to that oasis or will he be trapped in his dreams where Eva lives.
What We Think: Let me start off by saying that this is a GORGEOUS looking film. It’s cinematography is absolutely stunning. It has a sanitized look. Like a distant future that is equal parts bleak and oddly hopeful. Nuno Nolasco is great as the lost soul that is Miguel. There’s an air of mystery to what Maria Leite brings to Eva. Carlos Amaral, after discussing it with him sorta knew he had a great visual of the film. Make sure you check out that interview below. The most striking thing about the film on the whole is the score. That is a really beautiful piece of music.
Our Grade: B, This is definitely a film you should check out! It’s a slow burn from a narrative perspective. That might be a bit the most off-putting thing about this film…the pacing. All the other elements fall together really nicely in a package that is well worth your time and money. Check out the film and enjoy a beautiful. moody piece of romantic sci-fi. I can assure you there’s not a whole lot of films in 2023 that will be as visually pleasant and unique as this one. It’s a film that is sure to touch you and have you questioning your place in our big blue world.
