Title: Your Place or Mine
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Aline Brosh McKenna
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher, Zoe Chao
Runtime: 1 hr 49 mins
What It Is: At one point in high school Peter (Kutcher) and Debbie (Witherspoon) hooked up. Nothing came of it romantically but they remained the best of friends. Throughout the years the two have stayed in touch and in each others lives. Now when Debbie decides to take a test that will elevate her career she has to go to New York, where Peter lives, for a few days. When Debbie’s babysitter bails on her that trip is in jeopardy…until the newly single and in between projects Peter decides that he’ll come out to LA and watch Debbie’s son Jack (Wesley Kimmel).
What We Think: It’s a Netflix exclusive romantic comedy. You are getting what the face value is. For their part Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher have decent chemistry. This is very reminiscent of another Kutcher romcom No Strings Attached. Just what you expect from a structural and writing perspective. You know where the story is going. So the mileage you get out of that will determine how much you get out of this one.
Our Grade: C-, It’s a harmless Netflix romcom. You can certainly find something better to watch on the largest streaming platform on Earth but if you decided this is worth the 109 minutes I don’t think you’ll be too mad. There’s nothing here that screams WATCH ME…unless you’re a die hard Reese fan like my boy Dylan is. Even he probably didn’t think this was Reese’s strongest moment. I don’t know ask him. With minimal efforts placed this is the type of easy watch. Go ahead and check it out. I’ll be waiting for the next Netflix romcom with baited breath, even if I could probably pick out every plot point.
