Title: Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Guillermo Del Toro
Starring: Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann
Runtime: 1 hr 57 mins

What It Is: A retelling of the classic Carlo Collodi book about a lonely carpenter named Geppetto (Bradley) that builds a wooden boy. Why does he build a wooden boy? You’ll need to watch to find out. Why was a selfish cricket (McGregor) put in the place of conscience for the young wooden boy? As both the naive wooden boy and his ill-prepared carpenter father attempt to navigate through Mussolini’s Italy and the impending wrath of the second World War.

What We Think: This is true movie magic. A beautiful story told to us in what i’d consider the best medium to do it. Stop-motion animation. The animation looks like a million bucks. All of the character redesigns are so wonderfully full of life and yet obscure in there looking. Pinocchio more wooden then ever Geppetto a more curmudgeonly and long lived fellow. Then there’s a character like the cricket and blue fairy who are looking well…far less cutesy. Either way it is a stunning, breathtaking piece that will have you crying, smiling and cheering. A truly magical experience once again from a master himself.

Our Grade: A+, No other movie has elicited the feelings that this film has. It gave me all the feels and it was a spectacular thing. I recommend that every single man woman and even the children hit Netflix up for this. Animation seems to be a strong suit for them. Working with these non-Disney/Pixar, non-Dreamworks studios. I mean look at last year. They made arguably the best animated film of 2022, alongside Sony with The Mitchells vs the Machines. This is also one of the best films of the year without the caveat of being in the medium of animation. See this immediately!
