Title: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Rian Johnson
Starring: Daniel Craig, Janelle Monae, Edward Norton
Runtime: 2 hr 19 mins

What It Is: Another tale featuring detective Benoit Blanc (Craig). This time around he’s invited to a mysterious island by billionaire magnate Miles Bron (Norton). The big question is why? He doesn’t know Bron and has no affiliation with him, in fact all the other guest are all a part of Miles’ inner circle. The other big question is what are they all doing here? Especially on an island owned by the crazed rich man, one who all of them, besides Benoit, trust.

What We Think: Rian Johnson will always throw everything at the wall and hope it all sticks. Here he does that in a way that affects every character on screen. It’s a smart piece even if it does tend to wander toward the outrageous in regards to the hows of Benoit figuring everything out. Edward Norton shines as the annoying entrepreneur responsible for bringing everyone together. That’s actually the strength of the film…the cast. Each plays their role so well and fits withing Johnson’s script to such a degree that you’d be mistaken for thinking we weren’t just flies on a very peculiar wall.

Our Grade: B+, Taking everything the previous Knives Out did and upping the ante makes for a wonderful experience. One you can catch on Netflix but are missing out on if you weren’t in the theater. You’ve got to see this. Especially for Janelle Monae’s excellent turn here. It MIGHT be her best role yet and I hope we aren’t seeing the last of this talented woman on the biggest screen possible. Rian Johnson, bravo my man, you’ve done it again! Crafted a modern Clue that’d make Poirot and Agatha Christie herself a little jealous.
