Title: Meet Cute
MPAA Rating: TV-MA
Director: Alex Lehmann
Starring: Kaley Cuoco, Pete Davidson, Kevin Corrigan
Runtime: 1 hr 29 mins

What It Is: When Sheila (Cuoco) has an excellent night with Gary (Davidson) it’s one she would love to never forget. A perfect meet cute, as it were. In order to make sure she never forgets it she goes back in time to do it all over again. Will this prove to be a mistake. Can lightening truly strike twice on the same night? Can it strike three times? What becomes of a night, or a man when history repeats itself and you don’t know it?

What We Think: It is completely fine. Davidson is not AS annoying as he normally is. Cuoco however cannot say the same thing. She is an utter hindrance. You hate her character throughout most of the film. Ironically that makes the end of the film work more. I won’t spoil why, but trust me. Lehmann does a really nice job of making the repeated scenes LOOK different enough. That’s a bit of a challenge and one he seems more than game to try. It’s a mid-to good romantic comedy. One that is quite disposal but during it’s runtime will give you enough laughs to make it worth your while. Time-travel films are always a challenge. This one, keeping it to one night, sort of covers its looping nature fairly well. The biggest challenge script-wise for any of these types of films.

Our Grade: C+, Doing well to fix the biggest problem in writing a time-travel film doesn’t mean the film fixed anything else. It still has many RomCom contrivances. It doesn’t do anything to circumvent this, instead half-measuring the worst parts of other films. As previously stated I disliked Kaley Cuoco’s character and she killed my vibe. We don’t like vibe kills here.
