Title: Prey
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Dan Trachtenberg
Starring: Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp
Runtime: 1 hr 39 mins

What It Is: In a Comanche village young Naru (Midthunder) fights to prove she can hunt, fight and kill with the boys. Her brother, Taabe, is seen as a village leader and often leads them on hunting excursions for food. When something strange begins to hunt the Comanche no one believes Naru that this something might be different from what they’re used to hunting. That this creature might be something out of this world, even if they don’t realize it.

What We Think: This is absolutely the best film in the Predator series. Without any doubt at all. Amber Midthunder is absolutely fantastic and the heart and soul of this film. At every turn she displays so much talent. All of the kills we experience in our time with the Predator here are spectacular. Visually it’s a gorgeous film that even offers some nice CGI to go with the practical elements and the lush cinematography. What else is there to say but that simply put in the plainest language this is one of 2022’s best offerings. It is also a complete and total surprise for me, because I didn’t know what this film was going to be.
Our Grade: A, Obviously, given what I’ve said here the grade goes without saying. Hulu is absolutely ON FIRE this year. Couple this with the excellent Fresh and you get a fantastic horror-style double feature. Come for The Predator…stay for the thrills, blood spills and incredible individual camerawork here. This is a film that’ll leave you satisfied with it’s conclusion even if you can see it coming a mile away. The BEST thing about this film is it is a film about Native Americans, in this case the Comanche, and these Natives are played by ACTUAL natives. Check this one out immediately.
