Title: Don’t Make Me Go
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Hannah Marks
Starring: John Cho, Mia Isaac, Kaya Scodelario
Runtime: 1 hr 49 mins
What It Is: Max Park (Cho) is a single dad raising his teenage daughter Wally (Isaac). When he finds out he has a potentially life ending tumor he is given two options. Treat it and live the remainder of his life to the fullest or have surgery to remove it and potentially die on the table. He chooses the former and with that he’ll use his upcoming reunion to introduce his daughter to the mother that left her behind in hopes that she has someone to look after her when he is gone.
What We Think: What a gorgeous, emotional piece from Hannah Marks. When I spoke with her about Mark, Mary and Some Other People at Tribeca last year she mentioned she was working on this. What she put together is a high key underrated gem for Prime Video. By the way check out that review HERE. Either way John Cho is doing some amazing work. He and Mia Isaac (who gives another good performance in a different film) have incredible father/daughter chemistry. You feel the love between the two even when they don’t like each other in stretches of this film. It’s beautiful to look at, lovely to enjoy and Hannah Marks leaves her (no pun intended) mark on all of us with this wonderful piece.
Our Grade: A, I LOVED this film. Adored it. It had me crying, laughing, it left me happy but also emotional. It does everything a film should do for an audience. IF you have Prime Video this is one to watch immediately. Hannah Marks is one to watch herself as a filmmaker because she’s on a roll. I hope it continues with whatever her next project is. Kudos on the soundtrack for this film as well. It is stellar.
