Review: Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers

Title: Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Akiva Schaffer
Starring: Andy Samberg, John Mulaney, KiKi Layne
Runtime: 1 hr 37 mins

What It Is: Chip (Mulaney) and Dale (Samberg) are chipmunks really REALLY famous ones. They used to be on TV but now Chip sells insurance and Dale relies on his former fame to accomplish anything. When a former costar of theirs is kidnapped and could be potentially erased permanently it’s up to our chipmunk’s rescue rangers to help out detective Ellie (Layne) and solve this crime. Perhaps during this process, they maybe just maybe will be able to reunite with one other as well.

What We Think: This is a modern spin on what Who Framed Roger Rabbit did back in the ’80s. Melding live action with 2-D animation. Mixing in crime and comedy all the elements are there. Samberg and Mulaney are hilarious together and make a dynamic duo that certainly is better than I would’ve hoped for. Akiva Schaffer has proven throughout many years that he knows comedy and he’s quite funny. Having him lasso a project like this was sorta risky…but it worked. He wrangles the difficult format really well. Not an easy feat.

Our Grade: B+, Honestly this is just such a fun film. Not only that but it’s really well-made. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who really does just want a good laugh…oh and someone who’s tired of there never being any good originals on Disney+. This, well this is really good. Let’s get more of this kinda thing and less stuff that seems like Disney Channel Original Movies…PLEASE AND THANK YOU. Nonetheless I am fully aware this isn’t going to happen in the kid-centric streaming services. They’ll stick to what made them famous and throw things like this to the wayside.
