Review: A Perfect Pairing

Title: A Perfect Pairing
MPAA Rating: TV-14
Director: Stuart McDonald
Starring: Victoria Justice, Adam Demos, Luca Asta Sardelis
Runtime: 1 hr 41 mins

What It Is: Lola (Justice) is a very driven individual. She LOVES her job as a wine distributor representative. When she wants to bring forth a potential new client her idea is stolen. This leads her to quit her job and try to go out on her own and snag this client. It leads her to Australia where she’ll find her client on a sabbatical away from it all. When she meets the rough and tumble Max (Demos) who runs the sheep farm the two may find more than they bargained for.

What We Think: This is so damned predictable and cheesy and totally fine. Victoria Justice is charming and worthwhile in her task here. She needs the audience to adore her for this to work. It worked well enough for me. Adam Demos looks the part of the leading man in a romantic comedy. Stuart McDonald avoids this seeming like a Hallmark film. That’s something that can happen in films like this. Everything LOOKS gorgeous and really works when we talk about the setting of the film. Australia looks amazing. Shooting in Queensland certainly helped.

Our Grade: C-, A typical, run-of-the-mill romantic showcase from Netflix. They seem to have a lot of these all coming out around the same time. I tend to enjoy them more than most. Even still the film itself doesn’t do anything well enough to make the experience of being there worth the 101 minutes. That said if this doesn’t strike your fancy I honestly can’t blame you. For me, it works well enough for what it is. Check this one out if romcoms are your thing and you don’t mind a little schmaltz to go with it.
