What It Is: In the near future Japan is covered in bubbles. These bubble alongside a giant one covering the entirety of the island have led to excessive flooding and a gravitational anomaly. Now teenagers play a dangerous game of parkour around the buildings in the disheveled buildings. When one of them, Hibiki (Aguilar), is saved by a mysterious girl from inside the water he and his crew are determined to find out her mystery and that might actually solve the mystery of the anomaly as well.

What We Think: Overall this is a very well animated film. From a script point of view it’s fine it’s a typical anime romance type thing that Your Name got right years ago. The music is seriously stunning. Look no further then the music in. the trailer above for an example of the excellently crafted music that moves through this. It’s a very interesting anime and one that I can definitely recommend to fans of the genre. It does feature far too many of the things you’d find in an anime. This is certainly not a great thing. Strictly speaking it limits the films natural audience. And while the target demo will love it it’ll find difficulty outside of this.

Our Grade: C+, This’ll be a tough one to recommend outside of it’s target as I mentioned. Like I don’t know that non-anime fans will enjoy this. It’s a a beautiful and lovely told version of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale “The Little Mermaid” with the obvious twists to it. Those all work and make the subtle romance easily relatable. Honestly this was somewhat surprising. Netflix getting further into the anime game is a weird double edged sword. Still, check it out if you have time.
