Title: Morbius
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Daniel Espinosa
Starring: Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona
Runtime: 1 hr 44 mins
What It Is: Dr. Michael Morbius (Leto) is a brilliant biochemist. He also has a rare blood disorder. In order to try and heal himself of this disorder, he will go to whatever lengths he must. In desperation, he tries a formula involving vampire bats and their DNA. What results is a disaster. Now Morbius must protect the city from a concoction of his own creation. One is utilized by his best friend Milo (Smith). One he cannot control.
What We Think: What a pile of utter garbage. Jared Leto is TERRIBLE. Like I don’t know what he’s even doing. And Matt Smith is seriously in a completely different film. He’s the bad guy and he’s bad at being the bad guy. There’s honestly not a ton to explore or enjoy here. The CGI is bad Espinosa is bad Leto is as mentioned bad. Sony please for the love of whatever deity you believe in stay away from the Spiderverse in live-action my dudes. There’s just nothing much else to say here. This is a lousy film poorly made and poorly put together.
Our Grade: D-, I don’t know why I didn’t just straight fail this. Probably because the memes are too good. Morbin’ time will eventually take over the world but as it stands this is a film you should avoid like the plague. The post-credit scenes suggest we’ll be seeing more of Michael Morbius and I hope to god that isn’t true. Instead, I hope Sony realizes they have no idea what the hell they’re doing and mercifully ends their solo attempts to build out the Spiderverse. Venom barely worked and there’s no hope that the purposed Kraven the Hunter film will have any hope of being good at this point. God damn dude. It’s awful my guys.
