Title: Marry Me
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Kat Coiro
Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Maluma
Runtime: 1 hr 52 mins

What It Is: Pop stars Kat (Lopez) and Bastian (Maluma) are America’s “it” couple of pop music. They’re about to get married and their wedding is the talk of the town. On the eve of that wedding they debut a new song entitled “Marry Me”. When Bastian cheats with an ex and Kat finds out minutes into a performance she calls an audible. Selecting school math teacher Charlie as the recipient of her marriage invite. Live in front of the world. Charlie accepts and now the two newlyweds must find out if they are in fact built to last.

What We Think: I did not have high ambitions with this film. That said it is a really solid romantic comedy. Jennifer Lopez has never been a great actress. Let’s not even imagine that’s the case. That said she’s really soaking up simply being herself under the guise of Kat. Owen Wilson is sufficient as Charlie and he is and always has worked really well as an every man. I liked what I saw here and I like it enough to say that given the storyline and general poor work Wilson’s put up recently (looking at you Bliss and The French Dispatch). Michelle Buteau continues to be absolutely excellent in every supporting role in a romantic comedy she is given…love her.

Our Grade: C+, Solid and funny. This is a film that has it’s heart in the right place and tells a predictable but welcomed story. This film is definitely one that fans of the genre will enjoy. It goes beyond this though. It’s an easy watch. Something that you can throw on at any time and it just feels good. Such a warm and welcomed addition to 2022. Something we definitely needed. I love this sort of thing.
