Title: Halloween Kills
MPAA Rating: R
Director: David Gordon Green
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andy Matichak
Runtime: 1 hr 45 mins

What It Is: Following the events of Halloween (2018) Laurie Strode (Curtis) is injured and Michael Myers is seemingly burned alive. Seemingly being the keyword. It’s Halloween in Haddonfield and that means evil may not be truly dead. This year though the town is fighting back led by Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall) and a rag tag group of townsfolk Haddonfield will become a battlefield against one of cinema’s most sinister villains. The unbreakable unkillable Michael Myers.

What We Think: This film strips away everything that is the character of Michael Myers. There is a scene and it’s fairly early in the film that bastardizes who Michael Myers has been. His entire reason for existing. I won’t spoil what it is but it’s a tone deaf scene. It ruins the legacy of Myers for a quick buck. This is perverse garbage. Badly written and terribly put together. When one looks at this film you can’t help but feel like Gordon Green missed the point completely. Almost every character is a lame shadow of their former selves. Jamie Lee Curtis is doing…something. Judy Greer stands out because her character is the only one I didn’t want to actively strangle throughout.

Our Grade: D-, Someone find me my head slap meme. That’s what this film is. One. Big. Hand slap meme. Michael loses some of his mystique at a particular point. What is Michael Myers without the fear? He’s a weirdo in a mask. There are plenty of those. Curtis has been playing Laurie Strode for a long time now. It’s time to Olde Yeller this character or this series or something because it’s awful. This is available on Peacock (which no one has) and home release now. Don’t watch it.
