Title: Plan B
MPAA Rating: TV-MA
Director: Natalie Morales
Starring: Kuhoo Verma, Victoria Moroles, Michael Provost
Runtime: 1 hr 47 mins
What It Is: Sunny (Verma) has been a model daughter to her mother. She gets great grades, is home on time, and generally understands how she’s supposed to act. However, that hasn’t seen her have a ton of success with the opposite sex. Her best friend Lupe (Moroles) has the exact opposite reputation. When Sunny’s mother goes out of town she throws a party to try and boost her clout. When she makes a mistake with a boy she’ll search far and wide for a plan b pill. The catch is she lives in South Dakota a notably conservative state. Let the adventure begin.
What We Think: Man this is a GREAT film. The chemistry between Sunny and Lupe is enjoyable and makes the whole affair worth it. The situations they get into are believable and escalate the adventure and laughs. Natalie Morales is a star behind the camera. When you couple this with the equally fantastic Language Lessons you get a year where one director makes two of the year’s best films. This is a fun piece and one that makes its point clear without beating it over your head.
Runtime: A, I can’t wait for what the future brings for both the two leads and Natalie Morales as a director. These three ladies clearly have talent and it’ll be fun to see where it goes. Being that this film is on Hulu I can say it’s easily accessible and if you haven’t given it a shot do it immediately. Not only is the film worth your time but it’ll probably make your day. Unless you’re a pro-lifer then…you might not have a great time. The influences of films like Unpregnant and Booksmart are there but the film stands on its own with the writing, performances, and direction.
