Title: Liza Anonymous
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Aubrey Smyth
Starring: Danielle Beckmann, Malikha Mallette, Sharon Gallardo
Runtime: 12 mins

What It Is: Liza (Beckmann) is an addict. Unlike the people in the groups, she attends however her addiction isn’t to drugs, alcohol, or sex. Her addiction is attention. Liza loves being the center of attention and she will do whatever she has to in order to feed that addiction. She does this by playing different parts in order to give herself a story to keep the attention of the group as a whole. Whatever the costume she has a back story ready.

What We Think: Danielle Beckmann is awesome in this. She gives a hilarious performance that in the hands of another actress might’ve been wrong tonally. She understood the assignment. I like the way the script moves along. I mean the short is only 12 minutes so it isn’t like you’re trapped there. Still, it’s a brisk dozen or so minutes that I have to say I truly enjoyed. The shorts of Tribeca have overall had a high quality we’ll touch on a few more later. This one is fun, funny and its simple concept is delivered well.

Our Grade: B-, If I’m going to say anything I’d say that fans of short films will love this. A lot of people who like short films are often those that also make films themselves. I’d recommend some of our laypeople do themselves a favor and experience these unique shorts…like this one. Often those are the most fun. Especially when they run in front of something that suits it. Like having a fine wine before a nice steak. This is a nice cabernet sauvignon of sorts. I’d pair this with a fun comedy that will benefit from this film’s strong lead performance and interesting premise.
