Title: Jungle Cruise
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall
Runtime: 2 hrs 7 mins

What It Is: Lily (Blunt) is seeking a treasure beyond anyone’s belief. In fact, no one believes that she can do it or that it even exists. So when she needs a boat to get through the Amazon in order to reach her goal she accidentally hires Frank (Johnson) a down on his luck captain of a small vessel. Now the two must traverse the dangerous Amazon, complete with unknown adversaries in order to reach the Tears of the Moon. Based on the Disneyland ride of the same name.

What We Think: This is a fun Disney romp if nothing else. Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt have fantastic chemistry. That’s probably why the film is so much fun because the two of them seem to be having a great time. Jaume Collet-Serra wrangles the jungle craziness well. Narratively some of it is a bit messy but honestly, it’s better written than I expected. As far as big-budget adventures this film is not the best but it certainly lends itself to a good time. Disney surprised me…that’s not easy to do nor is it expected given the level of mediocrity they’ve established of late.

Our Grade: B-, A heck of a fun time this one is a Disney film that even adults won’t mind. It is a LITTLE too long. Quite honestly you could chop like 20 minutes off of this. The Rock continues to do work that takes advantage of his skill set, but I’d say he’s expanded his talents little by little over the years. Overall I can recommend this one easily. It’s, and I know this is cliche, truly fun for the whole family. Should be an easy watch on Disney+
