Title: Jolt
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Tanya Wexler
Starring: Kate Beckinsale, Jai Courtney. Stanley Tucci
Runtime: 1 hr 31 mins
What It Is: Lindy (Beckinsale) has always had an anger problem, but not in the traditional way. You see ever since Lindy was a little girl she tends to get violently angry. That manifests itself with literal violence toward whomever it is that’s upset her. Even further once she’s upset she gains almost superhuman strength and speed. She wears an electro-shock vest whenever her anger compulsion is present. With the help of a button, the shock keeps her calm. However, when someone murders the man she was getting to know she loses control.
What We Think: This movie was okay at the start. It sadly loses its mojo in the back half of the second act and freefalls completely in the third. There’s a twist here. It sucks. Like…that’s really all I want to say about it. Kate Beckinsale is really trying to make me care but the bad direction doesn’t save the pretty cinematography from a terrible script. The biggest sin the film commits is wasting our absolute boy Stanley Tucci. Also, we are still of the belief that Jai Courtney cannot act.
Our Grade: C-, Wasted talent on a wasted script that doesn’t deserve your eyes. It’s on Amazon Prime so it’s an easy film to get to and that’s what I hate. There’s an ease with which you can see this. For bad movies that can never be fun. There are some good elements to the film. It looks cool with its neon-drenched aesthetic. Kate Beckinsale is having a good time and you can definitely tell. All of it isn’t well put together and that’s on Wexler. She’s actually the reason I checked this out (besides it being our job). I thought Buffaloed was a pretty fun little film. There was no repeat performance sadly.
