Title: Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Patrick Hughes
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek
Runtime: 1 hr 40 mins
What It Is: A sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard we return with Michael Bryce (Reynolds) and he’s being told by Sonia Kincaid (Hayek) that his services are requested by her husband Darius (Jackson). Except he definitely got misheard. Now the trio must deal with a terrorist targeting some of the world’s most powerful people. The biggest question is can they even bet along long enough to do this, or will their lack of respect for one and other or will they let the bad guys win.
What We Think: What a gigantic and expensive mess. Ryan Reynolds is in a much better film this year that we’ll talk about soon. As for this film. Dear god! I wanted it to end with some quickness. It just isn’t funny. It’s probably twenty minutes too long. None of the jokes are particularly funny. And Salma Hayek is once again wasted on a bad script that is completely dumb. Sorta like Bliss except with fewer gunfights. Speaking of the gunfights the action isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire. It’s sorta just an overall terribly written and body direct piece.
Our Grade: F, What a complete and total failure. You had an opportunity to make a film better than the catastrophe that was the original but instead made a film that was substantially worse. I did not think that was possible honestly. There’s nothing here. It’s a cotton candy film if ever there was one. No nutritional value whatsoever. Instead, we get this fluff crap with explosion and Samuel L. Jackson’s unique chemistry. It isn’t enough to make this less than one of the year’s worst. I cannot in good conscience recommend this at all.
