Title: Batman: The Long Halloween
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Chris Palmer
Starring: Jensen Ackles, Josh Duhamel, Naya Rivera
Runtime: 1 hr 25 mins
What It Is: It’s Halloween knight and someone has murdered a key witness in a case against notorious mob boss Carmine Falcone (Titus Welliver). The Caped Crusader also known as Batman (Ackles) and the new district attorney Harvey Dent (Duhamel) are on the hunt to solve the case of this “holiday murderer”, especially when he strikes again on Thanksgiving. With a little help from Catwoman (Rivera R.I.P.), they might just crack the case and solve this case…maybe.
What We Think: The animation is stellar. I love the entire look of this film. When we talk of the story this is a well-told one. It took two films in order to tell the tale but it’s worth the almost three hours you spend. As per usual the voice acting in this is simply fantastic. Everyone is great but the spotlight is on Duhamel and Rivera they’re great. All these elements mash up wonderfully to show that the DCAU is still the premiere voice in superhero storytelling…at least in the animated area. The worse thing I can say is, as was pointed out to me, that the DCAU relies far too heavily on Batman to produce content. That systemic of DC as a whole milking their black-clad cash cow. There are great characters outside of the “big three” DC. You wouldn’t know it though…looking at what they make.
Our Grade: B+, It’s a good animated flick. One that’s certain to keep the comic book incels happy as well as entertain those who didn’t read the entire arch. I believe this is available via HBO Max so definitely check this one out if you get the opportunity to do so. You will not regret it.
