Title: Lily Topples the World
MPAA Rating: Not Yet Rated
Director: Jeremy Workman
Starring: Lily Hevesh, Casey Neistat, Jimmy Fallon
Runtime: 1 hr 30 mins

What It Is: Lily Hevesh is a marvel when it comes to toppling dominoes. She is perhaps the world’s best and when she starts to generate interest in her YouTube channel H5 she realizes that maybe this dominoes thing could become a career. We watch as she goes from first-year college student to domino influencer. The hard work she’s put in and the unusual art she crafts. Pieces that are certainly one-of-a-kind originals.

What We Think: Lily is a fascinating subject with such an interesting talent. Workman lets the subject of his documentary just be herself. What we get is a charming young woman who’s sure to be successful in whatever. It’s built-in a way where we want her to be just that…successful. Workman gives us someone to root for. That fact alone is what makes this film a good doc. Documentaries are often about someone or something. The someone is often either interesting or not. That can be crafted by the documentarian’s narrative. What their intent is. With this one Discovery+ has exactly the type of film it should. One filled with awesome and interesting people doing unique things.

Our Grade: B, It’s always interesting when it seems the director of the documentary cares for not just the hobbies of their subject but for the subject themself. I’m sure if I asked Jeremy Workman his thoughts on Lily I’d be a glowing review. Much like the one I’m giving this film. Like one of Lily’s works, this film doesn’t flow if even one piece isn’t properly placed. Also like Lily’s work each piece plays its part. If you’re a Discovery+ member check it out, in between episodes of Pawn Stars and Americans Pickers, of course.
