Title: I Carry You With Me
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Heidi Ewing
Starring: Armando Espitia, Christian Vasquez, Michelle Rodríguez
Runtime: 1 hr 51 mins

What It Is: Ivan (Espitia) is a young ambitious man living in Mexico. At a time when jobs are scarce and dreams are even more so. In order to change this Ivan makes the difficult decision to try and immigrate to the United States by whatever means necessary. When he meets the handsome Gerardo (Vasquez) feelings are had. Making the decision to do what is best for him and the family has to leave behind a. difficult one.

What We Think: This is a loving, beautiful portrait of the importance of dreams and following what your heart says. There’s a certain beauty to just watching something like this. A reminder of the human spirit and everything it can accomplish. Espitia and Vazquez have such palpable chemistry it permeates through the screen. Heidi Ewing makes a decision in the third act that legitimately changes the dynamic of the film. It works. If it hadn’t the film would fall flat and seem like a gimmick. Ewing’s talent is obvious here. Her eye is not intrusive to the material and in fact treats it with the respect it needs and deserves. Working from your own script helps with that.

Our Grade: A-, Touching and with just the right amount of emotion this is a powerful and true story of love, life and the decisions we have to make. It is imperfect, as life and it’s characters flawed. This film is an experience that needs to be seen. To be felt deep within the heart. Don’t let the subtitles scare you off. The cast and crew here deserve for this film to do well and to make its money. These projects more then those giant budget films deserve to be seen. With this one I couldn’t be happier then to recommend this.
