Title: Army of the Dead
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Zack Snyder
Starring: Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera
Runtime: 2 hr 24 mins

What It Is: In the beautiful city of Las Vegas a zombie that’s mutated has been let loose on the Entertainment Capital of the World. As the creature ravages around the city turning people into zombies like him the city begins to evacuate and the government has declared that Las Vegas is no longer a part of the United States. The entire city is now a no enter zone for humans. But as humans do people still cross that line. When a rich man proposes to Scott Ward (Bautista) that he can make a ton of money on a heist he compiles a team to steal from within “enemy” lines.

What We Think: Zack Snyder is always the sort of polarizing director that seems to forget that when you make a movie that a story is necessary. Here he scrap one together and it sorta…works. It is a fun time. The effects, as one would expect from Snyder, look great. Bautista is so charming as the lead here even if he doesn’t do quite enough. As a whole the cast is likeable and that’s another thing I suppose Snyder often struggles with. Making likeable characters that aren’t solely surface level. He hasn’t really done this since his Dawn of the Dead remake. He does it here. Very well.

Our Grade: C+, More of this please. Zack, listen Zack, can I call you Zack? Make more stuff like this. Stuff that doesn’t take itself so seriously. That’s just trying to have a good time and kill some zombies. It’s what you know, quite frankly. This was far more enjoyable then your last 4 films. Bautista is an obvious star and continues to pick roles in films that make total sense for him. His agent deserves a higher cut. Either this Netflix zombie film is a fun enough time to warrant your eye balls on it.
