Title: Nobody
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Ilya Naishuller
Starring: Bob Odenkirk, Aleksey Serebryakov, Connie Nielsen
Runtime: 1 hr 32 mins

What It Is: Hutch Mansell (Odenkirk) is just an ordinary guy. One that lives in a very structured and organized manner. He goes to work, he comes home, repeat. When his home is broken into it awakens in Hutch some programming he had not expected to see again. Now he’s out for revenge…and to get back his daughter’s unicorn necklace that’s gone missing. With a little help from his father David (Christopher Lloyd) and an unknown former colleague “Harry” (RZA) he’s going to make sure everyone knows he’s a nobody.

What We Think: A lot of people will compare this to John Wick. It’s an understandable comparison. Both feature killing machines in their 50’s dragged back into the game by unforseen circumstances. Writer Dylan Kolstad wrote John Wick so those comparisons are apporpo. I’ve never seen Bob Odenkirk in this light and it was fun, refreshing and worked far better then I think it has any right to. Part of that is the scripting is great and Naishuller puts together a competent film with the camera in the right spot at the right times.

Our Grade: A-, This, rightfully is the best action film I’ve seen thus far in 2021. I look forward to seeing if they continue this series and with Kolstad’s pen at the start that’s a possibility. We’re a long way from the days of the Mr. Bob Show. I never suspected we’d say action star Bob Odenkirk but this film has me happy that we are. Likewise, it was GREAT seeing Christopher Lloyd back on the screen the guy is always a treasure. Check this one out! Our review for this is so late that it’s available to rent…so…go do it.
