Title: The Map of Tiny Perfect Things
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Ian Samuels
Starring: Kathryn Newton, Kyle Allen, Jermaine Harris
Runtime: 1 hr 38 mins

What It Is: Mark (Allen) is very content with his life the way it is. School, living his life rinse and repeat. Literally. You see Mark is stuck in a time loop and he’s got no idea how to get out of it. When he meets Margaret (Newton) he realizes he’s not the only one stuck in this loop. Now together the two of them try to make the most of it.

What We Think: As much as the film has its charm it more often than not takes the easy path. The formula still works here but it’s a formula nonetheless. Kathryn Newton and Kyle Allen have some decent chemistry. However, this trope is something we’ve seen done far better and recently in Palm Springs and a genre as a whole that’s done better by things like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Having said that there are points in this that really do a fantastic job of setting the mood of the entire piece and that’s the sort of thing that you need in a teen romcom.

Our Grade: C+, Having never read the source material I cannot for sure say if the source material fit the end product. The end product is, in fact, a decent teen romantic comedy that uses a (now) somewhat overused premise. That said…I do think this is an enjoyable piece that many will find a little cheesy but otherwise romantic. Easy access being that it’s on Amazon Prime video so definitely check it out. It is 98 minutes of decent teenage romance that is what you’ll find here. If not then there’s plenty of other things to check out on Amazon.
