Title: Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Josh Greenbaum
Starring: Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo, Jamie Dornan
Runtime: 1 hr 47 mins

What It Is: Two best friends Barb (Mumolo) and Star (Wiig) have just been fired from their job. A job they happened to have loved. In order to deal with this, the two of them plan a vacation to the lovely getaway city of Vista Del Mar. But Sharon Gordon Fisherman (Also Wiig) has other plans. You see she has a score to settle and she sends her best man Edgar (Dornan) in there to make it happen.

What We Think: This film is hilarious. I don’t know what I expected going in but it was not whatever the hell it was I got. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo have such great chemistry together. Not only are they funny but I will say this is the best SNL skit that’s never been an SNL skit. The plot is all over the place. That would normally be a death knell for a film but…frankly, this film is built on nonsense, and if it’s going to do that it had better go all the way. It goes all the way and that wacky energy coupled with the energetic two leads makes for a true gem in 2021.

Our Grade: B+, This is an easy recommendation. Most will find a film that’s equal parts charming and hilarious. I obviously am going to tell everyone to rent this one immediately you will not be sorry. Especially because after 2020 we could all use a good laugh. This film offers exactly what you need out of it. A rocking good time that you don’t really have to think too hard on. Likewise, Kristen Wiig shows that perhaps her last film (the disastrous Wonder Woman 1984) was a fluke. Something I didn’t need convincing of.
