Title: Fatman
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Eshom Nelms, Ian Nelms
Starring: Mel Gibson, Walton Goggins, Marianne Jean-Baptiste
Runtime: 1 hr 40 mins
What It Is: Chris (Gibson) is a man known worldwide for his gift giving. But business isn’t great for the holiday legend. To supplement that the United States government has offered Chris an opportunity. Little does HE know that a twisted and sinister hitman (Goggins) is after him at the direction of a sadistic little boy named Billy (Chance Hurstfield) who’s sick and tired of coal in his stocking…but definitely isn’t going to change his behavior. Now Chris might have to come face to face with both of them.
What We Think: Mel Gibson is…well…he’s in this movie. I cannot say this is something I personally enjoyed. I didn’t. One of the biggest issues with this film is the absolutely awful script. Predictable and predictably lame action setups don’t do much to fuel interest in this. There are far too many continuity efforts. Not to say the least of the stupid plot and brain-dead lack of direction. The Nelms Brothers have been pretty good. Their previous film, Small Town Crimes is pretty good. This one, unfortunately, misses the mark.
Our Grade: D+, Don’t see this. There’s not enough to it to prove interesting and made well enough to work. Even our starting point here proves too ridiculous for the straight face the film plays with. The very idea of Santa Claus being a crazed maniac of a person. That is very cool. I’ve stated many times I don’t care for Christmas flicks…especially the ones revolving around Santa Claus. So this film had a tough hill to start. Doing nothing with the premise it tries very hard to make work. It’s futile efforts don’t catch on and your left with a lump of coal where a good film could’ve been.
