Title: Bill & Ted: Face the Music
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Dean Parisot
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, Kristen Schaal
Runtime: 1 hr 31 mins

What It Is: The most righteous of dudes have returned once again to bring forth a most epic of adventure to us all. Ted (Reeves) and Bill (Winter) have been searching for the song that will unite the world. When Kelly (Schaal) arrives to tell them that they have but a short amount of time to craft that song that’ll save the world. With the help of their daughters Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine) and Thea (Samara Weaving) can they acquire the talent to make a most bodacious bop?

What We Think: There are some times when bringing a property back does not work. This, happily, is not one of those times. Both Bill and Ted feel fresh in 2020. As fresh as can be expected that is. Having said that I loved the addition of Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving. They brought their characters, new to the series, to life with some aplomb. I love the push and pull between being too nostalgic and not making that attempt at all. What presents itself is a lesson in how to effectively resurrect a film series. Stick to what got you to the dance. Bill and Ted are just two dudes trying to right some rad tunes. Dean Parisot takes a really decent script and navigates as he has in the past. Really well This is a man who directed a film written by a pre-Breaking Bad Vince Gilligan. While the film’s message is a simple one it’s nonetheless effective in its delivery.

Our Grade: B-, Funny and to the point. That’s the mark of a comedy that’s doing its job. Keanu feels really fresh since the somewhat resurgent manner of his recent works. Alex Winter making an appearance was a welcome sight in front of the camera. For those who don’t know he’s been killing it behind the lens as a documentarian. Films like 2020’s Zappa are an indicator of that. Check this most tubular of tellingly told tales out now it’s worth a shot!
