Title: Can You Keep a Secret
MPAA Rating: Not Yet Rated
Director: Elisa Duran
Starring: Alexandra Daddario, Tyler Hoechlin, Kimiko Glenn
Runtime: 1 hr 34 mins

What It Is: Emma (Daddario) just blew a huge sale for the company she works for. Now on the plane ride home, there’s heavy turbulence and in her fear, she gets a case of verbal diarrhea! As she’s spouting off to her seat neighbor Jack (Hoechlin) about her job (which she hates), her boyfriend (who she hates) and her life (which…you guessed it she sorta hates) it turns out that Jack owns the company she works for. He now knows all her secrets. What will he do with that information?

What We Think: To quote the auteurs of our time Fall Out Boy “I am such a sucker” in this case for romantic comedies. This one is good enough. I’ve never really been impressed with Alexandra Daddario but it’s projects like this that often see her shine. You only need to look at 2014’s Burying the Ex for proof of that. I think the chemistry between the two leads was good enough and that’s the key ingredient of any good RomCom. One glaring flaw in this is the contrivances. Stuff just sort of happens in order to best move the plot. But from a writing standpoint…what do you want?

Our Grade: C+, It’s good harmless RomCom filmmaking. Unspectacular but entertaining. Can I recommend this? Sure. It’s a breezy 94 mins. If you want some good romantic fun that won’t require much thinking this is right in that lane. If you want a relevant and interesting look into romance…well this ain’t it. It’s an easy enough film to find as it’s on VOD right now so again settle in and throw on FandangoNOW and perhaps look into this romantic film that really surprised me. That isn’t saying much given I had absolutely no expectations of it.
