Title: Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Jake Castorena
Starring: Troy Baker, Eric Bauza, Darren Criss
Runtime: 1 hr 27 mins
What It Is: A new threat has come to Gotham. At least one that is seemingly unknown. The Shredder and his foot clan have arrived. And they’re looking for some tech that Wayne Industries has. With it, they have some sinister plans with The Shredders new, unknown partner. This has also brought the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to town in order to stop whatever Shredder has planned and whomever he’s working with…Batman MIGHT have something to say about that.
What We Think: So for all the times that DC has missed the boat with its narratives…they nail it here. The animation isn’t quite as crisp here but that’s totally okay. Whereas typically its style over substance this one is good. Kevin Conroy is missed as the Caped Crusader, even if the excellent Troy Baker does a great job here. The mystery in the film isn’t lost and in fact, is quite good. When the twist in the tale hits it satisfies. Some of the animations seem a bit cheap but it nonetheless works really well.
Our Grade: B+, If you’ve enjoyed any of DC’s previous films then you will for sure like this one. If you didn’t enjoy them or don’t care then this really wasn’t for you anyway. I am giving this a recommendation for anyone who wants to check out a well directed, simple animated film. Likewise, the action scenes are great and feel well put together. The animation stays with the action and it all together just works. Perhaps the best part of all of this is it’s easy to get a hold of as it’s on DVD/Blu-Ray and streaming on demand right now!
