Title: Anthem of a Teenage Prophet
MPAA Rating: N/A
Director: Robin Hays
Starring: Cameron Monaghan, Grayson Gabriel, Peyton List
Runtime: 1 hr 45 mins

What It Is: A teenager named Lucas (Monaghan) can foresee the deaths of those close to him. When his best friend dies and he is aware of the exact reason why people begin to wonder if perhaps he is clairvoyant. Turns out he might just be. When his now dead friend’s girlfriend (ironically named) Faith (List) begins to hang around there’s another danger for his good friend Fang (Gabriel), but will anyone believe him.

What We Think: Cameron Monaghan is a very talented actor but this script does him favors. It’s a decent film that could be a good one with only slight adjustments. I’m glad that Juliette Lewis is in this. I didn’t want her last film I saw her in, which was Jem and the Holograms. God help us. That’s one thing we can for sure be grateful for. When looking at this it’s important to note that the budget for something like this. A film about a boy that has premonitions can really go the way of cheesy. That’s not what happened here. It makes it simple and keeps everything as some sort of flash forward.

Our Grade: C+, Not very memorable but an interesting experience nonetheless. There are a lot of things to take away from this. First among those is that the Gotham star is going to be a huge star after the final season of his highly popular television show. I would like to make this a surefire recommendation. There’s nothing inherently bad about it. It’s just quite meh in most every facade possible. Save for two good performances from Monaghan and, surprisingly List. Yes the young lady from the last two Diary of a Wimpy Kid films is here and…not bad.
