Title: Slice
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Austin Vesely
Starring: Zazie Beetz, Chance the Rapper, Rae Gray
Runtime: 1 hr 23 mins

What It Is: In the town of Kingfisher there resides both the living and the dead. They live somewhat harmoniously together. When a string of murders involving pizza delivery drivers in the area of the living dead strikes fear in the living the mayor (Chris Parnell) has decisions to make. One might be made for him as a group looks to have the plaza the pizza place that has had all the drivers murdered, thrown down. With the help of a rouge delivery driver Astrid (Beetz) and a Werewolf named Dax (Chance), they’ll look to get to the bottom of all this murder.

What We Think: A24 is, as I’ve written the best production house currently in existence. This to me might be their worst release, ever. They’ve had a great year with First ReformedHereditaryand Eighth Grade knowing this going in I, of course, was prepared to love it. It’s just not good. Chance the Rapper is a nice surprise here and Zazie Beetz is as she was in Deadpool 2 a charisma powerhouse. There are some jokes but a lot of them don’t hit. Nothing too interesting happens in the script and overall you walk away with a blase feeling about the whole thing.

Our Grade: D+, Meh. I’m not sure what A24 saw here. I mean if you REALLY need to watch this it is currently available to watch on Amazon Prime. If you ask me though it isn’t worth yours or anyone else’s time. Take a look at any of 2018’s other releases from A24. Things like Mid90’sNever Goin’ Back, and A Prayer Before Dawn instead of wasting your time with this subpar piece from the current and reigning GOAT of movie distribution.
