Title: Alright Now
MPAA Rating: TV-MA
Director: Jamie Adams
Starring: Cobie Smulders, Richard Elis, Jessica Hynes
Runtime: 1 hr 35 mins

What It Is: Joanne (Smulders) is an absolute mess. Her boyfriend has gone. She’s just left her band, or did they fire her? Regardless now she’s entering college. Well, at least she’s trying to do so if she can stay focused long enough to actually accomplish this. Will her rocker past prevent her from the scholastic future she hopes for? Or is it more of the mental games being played on her mind by the substances and situations of yesteryears.

What We Think: This is a forgettable, unmemorable and strange film. Smulders is pretty much a waste, much like her character. Unmotived filmmaking is evident here and I think Adams was sleepwalking through the entire filming. Adams had two films come out this and “Wild Honey Pie” (I cannot speak to the quality of this film, stay tuned) and it seems we might know where his loyalty lay between the two. Not a quality film by any stretch of the imagination and sadly I think it lost a lot of whatever was going into it. There are jokes here, I mean I think they’re jokes but they’re not funny.

Our Grade: D-, This is a black void of terrible decisions. Cobie Smulders goes from wondering “How I Met Your Mother” to how did I end up in this? I can’t give a recommendation for this. It’s an absolute bore. From start to finish all I kept thinking after about 15 minutes was “I wanna leave” but I couldn’t and I wouldn’t. I bit the bullet with this film for all of you. Do me a solid and heed my words DO NOT bother with this one, not even in the slightest bit.
