Title: Cam
MPAA Rating: Not Yet Rated
Director: Daniel Goldhaber
Starring: Madeline Brewer, Patch Darragh, Melora Walters
Runtime: 1 hr 34 mins

What It Is: Alice (Brewer) is a cam girl who goes by the name “Lola” online. She’s not the most successful but she does well enough for herself. When she FINALLY gets into the top 50 something strange begins to happen. Now she’s running cam shows even though she isn’t. Somehow her entire look has been stolen. Her entire show highjacked. Her passwords don’t work and the sites customer service offers no support. When it becomes apparent there’s a bigger issue happening Alice decides that perhaps it’s time to take Lola offline…for good.

What We Think: There’s a lot to love here. Madeline Brewer’s performance here is something to see. Not only is she the focal point but she takes the ball here and runs with it. Its story was a little bit of a surprise in how it tells itself and what Goldhaber does with it. A premise like this could get rather unwieldy or fall into trope turf. Instead, everything feels fresh and the way it’s shot gives it all a new coat of paint. Enough to separate oneself from the initial thoughts one would have for something like this.

Our Grade: B-, I really quite liked this. I didn’t expect to. I think this is another statement by Blumhouse that when it comes to the horror genre they are the current masters. This one is equally fun with the right amount of suspense. I can certainly recommend this to fans of films that are willing to take a chance. It’s a unique spin on a subgenre we’ve sorta seen before. This is one I think that audiences will like, critics might and that I do. A sexy thrill ride from start to finish with an end you might not see coming.
