Title: Ocean’s Eight
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Gary Ross
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway
Runtime: 1 hr 50 mins

What It Is?: Upon her release from prison Debbie Ocean (Bullock), the sister to the infamous and now deceased Danny Ocean (George Clooney) has a plan. Her artist ex-boyfriend framed her for a crime. Which is what sent her to jail in the first place. Now, five years later she’s out and ready for revenge. And revenge is profitable. As with any good heist though Debbie is going to need to assemble a team in order to get this done.

What We Think: A fun caper but not the strongest showing of anyone involved. Bullock is just the right woman for this role, and the girl power is certainly palpable. Cate Blanchett seems wasted. No, not drunk though that wouldn’t be a stretch for her character. No, instead this role isn’t good enough for one of this generations best actresses. A bit player alongside a pop star and several comedic actresses? Structurally the film is well enough to even when the script reaches for moments it can’t pull off. Gary Ross is no Soderbergh. It’s a fun affair and the effects of that cannot be understated.

Our Grade: C+, I mean for those of you that read this site, you’re probably not the target audience. Your mothers however will love this one. Not for the girl power on display but the simplicity and fun in it. I don’t recommend it unless you really just want something silly and fun. This is definitely the second best film in this franchise. Blanchett for sure deserves more than this. Finding this one won’t be hard it’s on Blu-Ray and digital now. So if this sounds like something to you for sure check it out, if not yeah go ahead and skip it.
