Title: Inhumanity
Rating: R

Runtime: 2 hrs
What It Is: After waking from a coma, Jess (Darcel Danielle) finds out that her father has committed suicide and her attacker, serial killer Six Pack Sam (Leviticus Wolfe) is still on the loose. Unconvinced that her father would take his own life, she sets out to find the actual killer.
What We Think: This film is something straight out of the 1950s mystery thriller genre with the pleasant twist of a female protagonist. In fact, the film’s cast is relatively diverse in age and ethnicity and the actors seem suited for their roles. Unfortunately, the story itself is hard to follow and I think much of that has to do with the length of the film. At certain points, it felt like there was too much going on and in other moments social commentary felt forced. Even some of the cursing was out of place. In addition to Jess avenging her father’s death and the people she questions, along the way a mad or maybe good scientist has captured the serial killer and experiments on him using hypnosis and drugs. The hope is to get Six Pack Sam to become a productive member of society, all the while Jess wants him dead. The film was shot really well! Cinematographer, Javier Garcia, captured expression and movement so beautifully in the various frames and light it took to create this film. If the film’s director was going for 1950s thriller, they definitely hit the nail on the head.
Our Grade:C, This film did not need to be two hours long. It’s as simple as that. Especially since the film ended on a cliffhanger and nothing seemed to be solved other than a couple of deaths to minimize loose ends. Structurally, if you’re into films like Vertigo (1958), I’d give Inhumanity a chance. If not, save yourself the leg cramps.
