Title: Forever My Girl
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Bethany Ashton Wolf
Starring: Alex Roe, Jessica Rothe, John Benjamin Hickey
Runtime: 1 hr 48 mins

What It Is: Liam Page (Roe) is a huge country music star. He also left the love of his life Josie (Rothe) at the altar on their wedding night. Now he can normally be found elbow deep in a bottle of whiskey. Stuck, writer’s blocked and now in a bad place. His life is essentially a mess. When a friend from high school dies in a tragic accident he returns home and when he does Josie is there. She brings with her a bit more than he bargained for.

What We Think: This is a terrible terrible movie. It’s terribly written, terribly acted and almost not directed. I am not a professional director but even I could’ve manned this ship. I really have no clue what Bethany Ashton Wolf is doing here. Roe and Rothe don’t really have the chemistry to pull this off. Musically the tunes we’re subjected to are better than the narrative we’re given. It’s Nicholas Sparks lite and that’s for sure not a compliment. Cheesy, ridiculous and overall narrative tomfoolery. I’m still not certain what I’ve watched.

Our Grade: F, Failure of the grandest design. It fails narratively, it fails directionally, it fails in every way possible. Avoid this. Unless you like cookie-cutter romance and tired film tropes. Good god, there’s just nothing to this of substance. I cannot recommend this film in any way. I mean if you find enjoyment in the mundanity of slog like this then, by all means, waste your time. I love romance movies, literally, everyone knows this. I cannot and will not stand for when they aren’t made well. Do not go see this film you’ll regret it.
