Title: ? Blockers
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Kay Cannon
Starring: Leslie Mann, John Cena, Ike Barinholtz
Runtime: 1 hr 42 mins
What It Is: Julie, Sam, and Kayla (Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, and Geraldine Viswanathan) have been friends their entire school lives. It is now the culmination of all of that, prom night. As their little girls begin a night they most certainly won’t forget Lisa, Mitchell, and Hunter (Mann, Cena, Barinholtz) find out that their girls have made a pact to lose their virginities tonight. For Lisa and Mitchell, this just won’t do. Now they’ve hatched a plan to stop them, one Hunter is reluctant to initially help with…but now he’s kinda stuck.
What We Think: This film is absolutely hilarious. Ike Berinholtz for me was the star, even if Geraldine Viswanathan and Miles Robbins steal a bunch of scenes. Viswanathan has last been seen in EMO Musical a film I very much enjoyed. Robbins is a Hollywood legacy his mother is Susan Sarandon and his father is Tim Robbins. This dude was really really funny. There are so many jokes here that are really well stacked you’re not laughing on top of other great jokes. Brian and Jim Kehoe’s script is well-written and Cannon really just knows how to handle herself behind the lens. Looking forward to whatever she does next.
Our Grade: A, This is a really funny film and I know for sure that I did not see this coming. John Cena might have a future in comedies and he continues to be funny. Things like Sisters and Trainwreck have proven the guys got some pretty good timing. I cannot recommend this film any more highly then I am right now. Leslie Mann is an absolute veteran and a comedic monster. I love her and need to see her in more films for pretty much eternity. Check this one out if you haven’t done so yet.
