Review: Smurfs – The Lost Village

Title: Smurfs: The Lost Village
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Kelly Asbury
Starring: Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Joe Manganiello
Runtime: 1 hr 30 mins

What It Is: Smurfette (Lovato) is the only girl smurf. Does anyone really know why that is? That’s what Hefty (Manganiello) Clumsy (Jack McBrayer) and Brainy (Danny Pudi) are going to have to find out whether they want to or not. When they get lost in the forbidden forest. Now they must deal with an unknown tribe of Smurfs as well as the always present evil of Gargamel (Wilson). What will they discover in the forest of the forbidden?

What We Think: Shoot me now, please! While it isn’t as bad as the previous 3-D and live action endeavors this is an awful movie. Sure you have some vocal talent in the cast spoken about above but honestly, the script isn’t good. Julia Roberts doesn’t even sound like she wants to be here. Most of the animation is fairly crisp I cannot really knock them there. Sony really is trying to hitch its animation horse to these one-dimensional blue humanoids. I think that’s a mistake as they have other properties that could prove profitable and one (Hotel Transylvania) that has been.

Our Grade: D, Sony Pictures Animation has The Emoji Movie coming out and that too looks like utter feces. Stop with the Smurfs Sony. Gimme dat animated Spiderman flick! Regardless don’t see this movie. It really isn’t good also wtf is going on with the voices here. Those forest Smurfs…what I equate to their version of the Amazon’s of Themyscira were all very popular “it” people. Which I guess is cool? My head hurts after watching this film. Can someone get me an aspirin, please? This was a B-level knockoff of Trolls which was, in turn, a B-level animated film.
