Title: Trolls
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Walt Dohrn, Mike Mitchell
Starring: Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel
Runtime: 1 hr 32 mins

What It Is: Once upon a time the trolls lived in fear. They feared being eaten by the Bergen who’d do so en masse. Every year once a year they’d pick the trolls off the Troll Tree. This is the only time the Bergen believe they can be happy. When the Troll King Peppy (Jeffrey Tambor) helps them escape they now live in harmony. Without fear of the Bergen, the now older Princess Poppy (Kendrick) accidently leads the Bergen to their village and with the help of the stubborn, somewhat paranoid Branch (Timberlake) they’ll have to save their entire species.

What We Think: What a fun film! I had fairly low expectations for this film. I thought this would simply be an annoying kid’s film with nothing here for adults to enjoy. I was very wrong about this and I am happy to admit that! Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick are adorable here. You really feel the blossom between them. Musically it is awesome to hear some classic and contemporary hits respun with or ridiculously haired friends. It’s airy, light and fun. Not much else you can ask for out of an animated feature.

Our Grade: B-, Crafting a fun film I think the folks behind this deserve all the credit in the world. Justin Timberlake will be getting an Oscar nomination for his song for this film. I guess one could say I just “got this feelin’ inside my bones” that that is how that’ll go down. I recommend this to anyone with kids. They’re going to love this thing. It just has an inherent charm about it. So much so you can’t put your finger on why you like it so much.
