Title: Ratchet & Clank
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Kevin Munroe, Jericca Cleland
Starring: James Arnold Taylor, Bella Thorne, John Goodman
Runtime: 1 hr 34 mins

What It Is: Mechanic Ratchet (Arnold Taylor) and his little mechanical friend Clank (David Kaye)  attempt to stop space captain named Chairman Drek from destroying every inch of the Solana Galaxy. To stop this guy our heroes must work with The Galactic Rangers. Together Ratchet and Clank will jump, smack and leap their way across the cosmos. All the while they’ll learn valuable lessons about each other and the world they live in.

What We Think: Let’s start by saying the animation here is simply just okay. By no means is this a good movie either. There’s a ton of problem structurally and even though it features legitimate voice actors in the lead roles they honestly aren’t doing much. They’re a lack of quality here that just permeates throughout. It left me wondering how this film got off the ground in the first place. Perhaps the film’s only purpose was to sell the surprisingly fun game that ties into this movie. Sony has a knack for doing this. By no means does this film do anything to help the reputation of video game movies. Hopefully, Assassin’s Creed can get it done.

Our Grade: D+, I cannot recommend even fans of the games see this. It offers nothing in terms of storytelling and by going animated nothing stylistically original. Overall it just looks like a less fun version of the game. It offers no control to the audience which is half of the intrigue of a property like this. If you have kids I’d suppose they’d enjoy the “funny” characters even though they offer nothing in the way of entertainment for the adult quotient of the audience. Overall I cannot tell you to see this.
